CLASSIC MINI RESTORATION

Classic Mini restoration

This Classic Mini began life as a 1991 Mini Mayfair imported from Japan. The brief was to return the car to its original factory blue while incorporating a series of official Cooper upgrades.

For the body restoration, the Mini was stripped back to a bare shell, revealing no corrosion whatsoever thanks to its life in Japan. The shell received a full anti-corrosion treatment before being repainted in its original colour. Cooper decals were applied and the finish was completed with clear coat, followed by hours of flatting and polishing to achieve an outstanding, high-gloss result.

Mechanical work included rebuilding the 998cc engine bottom end to standard specification. The cylinder head and rockers were fitted from an official Cooper conversion kit, along with twin SU carburettors, a Cooper exhaust manifold and a full exhaust system. The gearbox was rebuilt, the suspension was fully restored and treated, Hi-Los were installed, and the car was re-bushed throughout to improve handling and ride quality.

Electrical upgrades included improved front headlights and the installation of a retro-style stereo system with speakers mounted beneath the rear seat, adding modern usability while retaining period charm.

The interior received extensive refurbishment, including a new dashboard top and walnut dash fascia, new carpets, new roof lining, retrimmed seats and retrimmed door cards. Official Cooper door pulls, window winders and lock mechanisms were fitted, along with an official Cooper steering wheel to complete the authentic Cooper-inspired cabin.
